Vintage 1950s Yagasuri Kimono

Like Cupid’s bow, the Japanese people have employed arrows as symbols of prayer, communication, and hopes for love. In the Edo period, the arrow-fletching pattern (yasugari) was used in weddings, in hopes that, like an arrow, the couple would always remain true. In this kimono, the traditional yasugari is modified to portray an arrow moving so quickly it is blurred in flight, speeding its way to make one’s wishes come true.
